Forget Grammar! Learn a Language Naturally Through Comprehensible Input

Studying Grammar Doesn’t Help. It Hurts!

That may sound extreme and counterintuitive, but perhaps you will be convinced after answering a few questions.

Have you taken a language class before?

• Was the class taught primarily using a textbook and worksheets (as opposed to media, games, and activities?)
• Did you have to memorize vocabulary lists?
• Did you have to study grammar points?
• Did you spend more time studying grammar/vocabulary than listening to the target language?
• Was the class taught primarily in your native language (as opposed to the language you were studying)?
• Did you take classes in this language for at least one year?

If you answered yes to any of those questions, now answer this question: How proficient do you feel in your target language?
